1981 Yamaha SR500 Unregistered US Import Barn Find Classic Restoration Project Manufacturer: Yamaha Model: SR500 Year: 1981 Engine No: 4R8-000164 Frame No: 4R8-000164 Colour: Grey Mileage: 40750 Capacity: 499cc Starting at: £1499.99 Stock No: 88155 This very rare and much sought after 1981 Yamaha SR500 has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the air is thin and the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours. We have been unable to confirm this mileage reading. Please disregard it. The single most important purchase for a classic restoration project is the bike to restore, whether it's going to be a commercial venture or just a hobby interest it all starts here!. PLEASE CHECKOUT THE PICTURES........ As you can see this bike is pretty much complete missing just the l/h side panel. It has stood a while so the battery is flat, paintwork is slightly faded, tyres & seat cover are perished. BUT NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS.........The wheels are straight with reasonably clean alloy rims, good hubs & brake plate, disc, caliper & working master cylinder. Forks & yokes look straight with good chrome. Mudguards are both solid. Tail light assy is good as are the headlight & hangers. Instruments & switches look good. Carburettor is free sliding off the twist grip. Paintwork is slightly faded but solid, fuel tank is squeaky clean inside and has just minor dents/marks & scratches in the original paint. Exhaust is original & solid but has a scuff on the side. Seat base is in good condition throughout. Indicators are fairly tidy. Chain guard is tidy. The engine is cosmetically quite clean, it turns over nicely off the kick starter – sounds/feels great & has compression - We have had it firing/running on easystart spray but the fuel system & carb will need attention. The bike is currently unregistered. The registration process is reasonably uncomplicated. BUT, for bikes over 40 years old, if you want us to do it all for you - Inc a number plate, we charge just £100 to cover our admin costs. THIS VEHICLE COMES WITH THE US CERTIFICATE OF TITLE AND WE WILL PROVIDE PROOF THAT THE VAT & DUTY IS PAID ON THE NOVA SYSTEM.(This can take upto 4 weeks). Registration. You need to get the bike MOTed. (Vehicles under 40 years old only) You need proof of year of manufacture in writing. The American Title is a recognised document for this purpose. You need to have valid insurance on the bike. You can insure it on the chassis number. Send all this paper work to the DVLA, who will charge you £55 for the 1st registration plus the current amount for the road tax. The DVLA will send you your age related registration number.
