Description
Thanks for looking at my listing for a 1991 Kawasaki KX250. It's being sold as it just isn't being used- and has been gathering dust in the garage for years. I purchased this bike with a V5 in 2009 as a project. It then had quite an extensive refurbishment, went on the road and was used for all of one green lane trip. It's sat in the garage ever since after emptying the fuel tank and a squirt of oil down the bore. It's done no more than c. 50 miles since the rebuild - and most of those were on tarmac. The photos should show the bike and the spares (all of which will come with it) from various angles. I'll go through the refurbishment and then point out the known (albeit minor) known issues with the bike. It's a bit of a long listing as a consequence but here goes... Firstly, the refurbishment. This included: 1. Complete engine top end rebuild with new parts where required. This included sending the barrel off for fresh cylinder lining to go with the new piston. 2. Frame stripped to bare metal and repainted. As may be noted, the topcoat is the correct Kawasaki green. 3. Front/rear suspension completely rebuilt. 4. New Renthal handlebars. 5. Lights, brake lights, horn and new aftermarket Electrex stator wired up to supply the power for both spark and the ancillaries; no battery. Passed a full MOT, not a 'daylight only' one. 6. Wheels rebuilt. 7. New oversize tank and proper fuel tap with 'on-off-reserve' setting fitted. 8. Final gearing changed to make it more suitable for road/green lane use; standard motocross gearing was too low - for me, anyway. The engine was kept stock i.e. not tuned/detuned. Secondly, known issues with the bike, albeit they seem to me to be minor. 1. Although the lights all worked and passed the MOT, the front one is weak and wouldn't be of much use at night. 2. There's an aftermarket speedo/milometer fitted (please see the photos) but the battery is dead. The speedo/milometer was working fine; I haven't fiddled with this. 3. The level of coolant has dropped in storage and there seems to be evidence one of the radiators has developed a leak over the years it's been sat in the garage; the coolant wasn't drained. As may be noted from the photos, the spares include second-hand radiators. 4. When she got out on the road for testing, the carb had been cleaned but nothing in it was replaced. She was running a bit rich and ''bogging'/'four-stroking' when coming off idle and had cleared her throat by c. 3,000 rpm. It seemed most likely to me new jets and needle would probably fix this; there's also a spare carb amongst the parts. As the bike has sat unused in the garage, I've never got round to it. 5. The plastics (apart from the new tank on the bike) are showing their age. The intention was to replace these once the bike and the new relined cylinder/piston had a few more miles on them. 6. I haven't tried to start the bike since taking it out of the garage for the photos but, as the engine had very little use since being rebuilt, I doubt there would be any major issues. It turns over fine, with compression. 7. It's registered on a 'Q' plate. Having looked in to this at the time, I understand you can apply for an age-related plate with evidence showing/confirming the year of the bike if you want to. I didn't bother, but needed to be clear on the year for my own purposes when refurbishing it and e.g. ordering parts. 8. Obviously, the bike is currently declared SORN and is not MOT'd. 9. Quite a lot of spares/parts acquired; please see the photos. A lot of this is second hand and unused by me i.e. I'm passing them on with the bike in 'as bought' condition. Some of the spares/parts are new, unused consumable items such as suspension parts, brake pads, another new piston and some gaskets. All of the KX spares/parts in the photos come with the bike, along with a Clymer service/repair/maintenance manual. Cash on collection or bank transfer. Paypal is okay if the buyer pays their fees. Any questions, fire away. On 15-Jun-20 at 19:19:25 BST, seller added the following information: The following also goes to the highest bidder as part of the sale: 1. Spray can of Kawasaki green paint; and2. Motion Pro fork damper tool. This is the one required for dismantling/reassembling the forks.
