Background. This Raleigh moped belonged to the late father of a good friend of mine. I'm no bike expert (I prefer 4 wheels) but with a bit of research I'm guessing that it is an RM5 Supermatic that was made by Raleigh under licence from Motobecane. It was registered in March 1969 and has been off the road and dry stored since 1987. My friend intended to restore it but he got too involved in other projects and never got around to it. My friend has now hit health problems and has asked me to sell this moped on his behalf. We have NO documentation but the vehicle does appear on the DVLA database. 3 months ago we sent a detailed letter (and the appropriate form/frame no.) to the DVLA requesting an updated V5C in my friend's name - due to C-19 (I guess) we are still awaiting this although the DVLA have cashed his cheque ! So this auction is for the bike as seen on the basis that future DVLA re- registration with the original plate - AHM 20G - is a probability but not 100% definite. We will obviously forward any future DVLA correspondence to the new owner. I had intended to restore it to a better cosmetic/working condition myself prior to sale but now realise that I don't have the time - hence this auction. The Bike. It has been dry stored so has no rot. I have cleaned it up and cleared the muck out of the fuel tank/fuel lines/float chamber. I have replaced the spark plug. The photos are an accurate reflection of its condition. Plenty of superficial corrosion to the chrome in particular but it all seems to be there. All panels are present and correct. Both tyres pump up quite happily and the brakes seem to work. The 2 seater seat is in good order but I'm guessing is missing a passenger strap across the middle. There seems to be good compression and the odo reads 9389 miles. What it lacks are the accelerator/choke cables - they had both sheared from the twist grip. I have ordered 2 new Raleigh pattern cables from a specialist supplier and they will come with the bike. 7 day auction - local pick up near Rye East Sussex TN31 within 5 days of auction end please.
