Description

This auction is for my 1987 Honda C50 LAG, with 21,600 miles. It is one of the fully automatic moped variants. This means, if you’re as old as me, you can ride this on a car license, with no CBT, no L plates, and carry a pillion passenger (commonly known as grandad rights). I'll start with the most important part first, the frame. The most common place for rust to occur on these bikes is at the back of the rear arch, where the metal frame attaches to the plastic mudguard. This rear arch is completely solid and rot free. The whole frame is in great condition with only slight surface rust in places, as is to be expected with age.I bought this bike with thoughts of putting a Lifan 110cc engine in it, they fit straight in, even the colours of the wires match up, and bimbling around on it in the summer, but I am still in isolation due to health conditions, so won’t be leaving my house for the foreseeable future, which means all this bike is doing, is taking up valuable space in my garage. I have carried out various tasks to the bike whilst I’ve owned it. I have fitted a new leg shield, and a new exhaust. The tyres looked ok, but as a precautionary measure (I won’t take the risk of riding on old tyres) I fitted new tyres front and back, and at the same time fitted new inner tubes and new rim tapes. I have covered zero miles since this was done. I did not change the battery, as it was only 18 months old when I bought the bike and is in good order, it charges to 100% and is currently attached to my battery optimiser. The top end of the engine has an oil leak, possibly the rocker cover, and the bike bogs past about half throttle. I’d guess it’s a carb issue, but as I was changing the carb and engine I hadn’t bothered to rectify it. I now have neither the time, nor the inclination, so it'll need a bit of fettling. When I bought the bike it came with service parts, so I’ve just now fitted these ready for selling it. It has a new plug, new air filter and I’ve changed the oil. The bike starts and runs, and idles perfectly. I made a video to view, here’s the link, https://youtu.be/UfomwxTx4KY. The electrics all work, lights, brake light, indicators, and the bike generally is in good working order. These automatic variants are classed as mopeds on the V5C, as they are restricted to moped regulations via a washer welded into the exhaust to restrict gas flow. I have since fitted an unrestricted exhaust, just to make you aware. The bike is generally in a good condition as can be seen from the photos, it does have wear commensurate with its age. There’s bits of surface rust, scratches, marks etc, it’s not mint, but certainly looks respectable. There is no badge on the legshield, but they are available to buy. The chain guard is rusted, but still looks presentable and does it’s job. The seat has a couple of bits of tape, covering small holes. Paintwork is original, but has been touched up in places by a previous owner, which suggests to me the bike has been well cared for, and chrome work on wheels and rear shocks is good for a thirty three year old bike. It has no MOT, but I see nothing major that needs to be done. I can’t get it tested, as I can’t leave the house at the moment. I have the V5C in my name, this will be transferred to the winning bidder via online application once payment is made. This is by far the quickest method, taking only two or three days to arrive with you. I shall then send the complete paper V5C with the bike. Also included is a rear rack, which I removed, as I didn’t need it fitted, and a few spares bits which came with the bike when I bought it, bulbs, lenses, an aftermarket carb etc. I am unsure as to the value of the bike, I know what I paid, but I’ve also spent a good amount on it, so I shall start the auction at less than it owes me and let the bike find its own price, and hopefully get my money back.If you have any questions regarding the bike, please ask. I do not have a 'Buy It Now' price, and shall be running the auction to the end, highest bid wins, so please do not ask for one. I am located in Cornwall, which is a long way from everywhere. I do however have a reliable courier I have used for years, that is reasonably priced. I’d estimate you’re looking at £80-£120 depending on where in the country you are. You are also obviously welcome to arrange your own courier or collect in person. Viewing is recommended, although not particularly easy, due to my situation, but I could leave the bike chained outside for you to view whilst I remain indoors. Payment is via bank transfer, or PayPal if prior arrangement has been made with me. Message me before paying if you want to use PayPal. I think I’ve covered everything, but will add to the listing if I remember anything or I’m asked any questions and I think the information may be relevant to others. On 17-Jun-20 at 19:19:21 BST, seller added the following information: The winning bidder needs to make contact within 24 hours of auction end. Thanks. On 21-Jun-20 at 18:30:03 BST, seller added the following information: It has just been brought to my attention, in the specifications section the model says C90. Just to confirm, this is a C50 moped, as is stated on the V5C.Thanks
