Description

This is my 1974 Puch MV50 2-speed moped. Many years ago I bought two of these, one a basket case and one in running order. This one, the runner, was the one I used as my daily transport in London for a while around 2007. It ran perfectly and was totally reliable during its use, but my work changed, and then retirement to Devon, and I have not used it for a few years other than to potter around the village where I now live. I have other two-wheelers and, now downsizing my collection, this is for sale. I have the V5 and it is registered in my name, currently SORNed. It is tax and MOT-free. The paintwork is the moped's original finish and shows a few scuffs from use and storeage. Indeed, the entire machine is pretty much as it left the factory apart from the front mudguard which was originally chromed, but now is painted. I guess the only other major alteration from original is the seat, which was an uncomfortable dual seat (for tall people like myself) and not adjustable for height. I tired of riding with my knees under my chin, and fitted an adjustable single saddle which was more comfortable and much safer. Tthe saddle is a German "Denfeld" of the type fitted to other Puch models before the trendy change to dual seating..... I had the other chromed parts on the machine, including the petrol tank, rechromed for a planned renovation. The wheel rims are sound, but their chrome finish is poor: the pictures probably show the condition better than I can describe. Other than the re-chroming I have done little work on the moped. Before running the moped for the first time I checked the piston and cylinder bore, set the ignition timing, cleaned the carburettor and with fresh fuel it started first kick and continued such performance during my use of the machine. Lovely engines, and the simple 2-speed gearbox copes surprisingly well with all road conditions. Everything works: horn, lights, speedometer, magneto kill switch, the excellent full-width alloy hub brakes, and it even has its steering lock with two keys. It has covered around 3500 miles according to the speedometer, and I believe this to be a true reading given the condition of the cylinder and piston. It comes with a new road-legal pressed aluminium numberplate. Spares are inexpensive and easy to find, especially from Austria via the internet (only a couple needed for this moped, but a few were purchased for the "basket case", running perfectly when sold last year). Happy for any inspection (Exeter area), just email to arrange, or for any further photos which might be helpful. As this is a nearly 50 year-old machine I am sure you will understand that it will be sold as seen with no guarantees, but I would happily put fresh petrol in the tank and ride it, well, anywhere, with no qualms at all. I should be grateful for a Paypal payment of £100 on winning and the balance as cash on collection. Collection only. Happy bidding!
