Description
This is an unusual faired Norton in superb condition having been totally restored over recent years. It was first registered in 1971 and I believe it was originally commissioned by the then Birmingham Police Force. In this role it has been fitted with a period Avon fairing, original Craven rack and lockable period panniers. The rack would probably have held a radio but I now use it for luggage. I will try to list all the work done over recent years but I am bound to miss something. I have a large box-folder crammed with receipts. I also have a workshop manual and a Norton parts list. There are MOTs going back to the 90s which seem to suggest that the mileage of 23,800 might be correct but obviously I cannot warrant that. The bike has been fitted with new export handlebars, Magura control levers and heated grips. There is an Interstate 5 1/2 gallon steel petrol tank. Stainless wheel rims and spokes with new Avon tyres. A new Grimeca 4LS front brake means the bike stops safely and smoothly. There are new head bearings, fork stanchions, sliders, springs, rods, damper rods and caps. New exhausts, stands and rubbers have also been fitted. Lucas 180W three-phase alternator, converted to negative earth and Pazon Surefire electronic ignition, Cibie 60 W Halogen headlight and T140 style rear light. The engine has been re-bored with +20 pistons, new big ends, Superblend drive side main bearings, HD ball timing slide, new piston rings. The rocker arms have been smoothed and lightly polished. Con rods polished, cylinder head and main exhaust port heads Helicoiled, bronze exhaust clamps. Single carb conversions, Norvil 2-1 carb adaptor, Amal Mk 1 sleeved, new jets, floats, needles, O-rings and gaskets. The bike has been completely rewired and a new battery fitted. The engine normally starts first time and runs perfectly. The bike runs with a strong performance and a smooth ride. For health reasons I haven't used the bike for some months since a recommissioning service (receipt available)and sadly now need to move it on. To quote a mechanic who recently rode the Norton …….”you cannot help smiling when you ride this bike”
