Description

1963 Triumph T100SS, matching Tiger100SS great runner! Here is a very honest, unrestored, matching engine & frame, original registration example of the popular little Tiger 100SS Triumph 500cc. A super easy to start example, this model is ideal for anyone wanting a smaller model than the bigger Bonnies and Trophies but still wants the classic looks / lines for which Triumph of the period were so famous. The bike sounds great and ticks over beautifully. There’s no smoke and the engine is very quiet mechanically. Charging system is working well on a 12 volt set up with original points ignition. Speedometer is Smith’s Chronometric and is working well. Handling is great, the bike is quite light and well balanced and brakes are excellent. It goes really well! Very lively indeed. Gears and clutch are all good too. This is a well used and useable example that doesn’t appear to have been worked on or messed with for a long while . The bike comes with V5C registration document, it has its original (transferable) registration 882 WTN. Date of registration 22/07/1963. It is registered as Historic Vehicle therefore road tax is free and the bike is MOT exempt. Frame number is H31225, engine number T100ss H31225. These are original , genuine factory stampings. Cosmetically the bike is a little “challenged”. It is generally respectable but definitely showing its age all round. Enamel on the frame is sound but has been touched up in places. The tank and guards are in the correct for year & model “Regal purple” & silver. They all display the usual signs of age, chips, scratches and thin patches. It is not known if it’s the original paint or not, could be! Under the seat the battery box has been replaced with a larger box which has enough space possibly for a tool kit as well as the battery, Sticklers for originality would wish to replace with the standard battery carrier no doubt but the current set up is probably more practical. Wheel rims are both old but fairly decent condition. The front is an original Dunlop item with original dulled old spokes. Chrome is average with some flecks and dull patches. Front tyre is an old but unworn looking Dunlop TT100. Rear rim is also in average , reasonably condition chrome wise. Spokes are old and have been blacked over. Rear tyre is excellent hardly used recent looking Avon SM MKII. Exhaust is very good, not new. Seat is old but OK. There is no fin damage on the cylinder barrel but one portion of top fin of head on the nearside to the front is missing. This is remarkably unnoticeable. There is the usual oil leak from the push-rod tunnel front. Centre stand is a bit on the tired side but is OK on very level hard ground. Side-stand is fitted and in good order. All in all this is a very good starting point if you fancy owning one of the smaller sporty Triumphs. A genuine matching numbers example is basically very sound mechanical condition, needs only regular servicing and a bit of cosmetic to make a really superb machine.
