Description

After six years of ownership, I’ve decided that my forearms are no longer up to the job of supporting my (increasing) weight, and that it’s time to get a bit more upright. This is a ’99 Yamaha Thundercat. I bought it in 2014 with just under 9k on the clock. Embarrassingly, I’ve only put another 2k on it since (about 350 per year). The bike has never let me down, apart from the occasional flat battery due to lack of use. The condition all round is very good with no faults. Two years ago, someone tried to steal it and made a bit of a mess of the ignition barrel, but thanks to the immobiliser, they gave up (no other damage was done whatsoever). This was replaced immediately but it means there is now a different key than the one for the seat/fuel tank. In November the bike was dropped. This put a scratch on the crank case, and a couple of very minor ones on the fairing (so minor I couldn’t get the camera to pick them up) and a slightly bent brake lever. Unbelievably, it was classified as ‘cat n’ by the insurers. During ‘lockdown’ I decided to do a ‘big’ service. It has a new back tyre (the front was replaced last year), a new battery, new chain and sprockets and I decided to replace all the screws and bolts holding the fairing on. It has also had an oil and filter and coolant change. I went out for the first ride on it (since the drop/service) a couple of days ago, it behaved flawlessly but my arms and shoulders may never recover. Feel free to make contact if you would like any further information)
