1978 Yamaha DT175MX Unregistered US Import Barn Find Classic Restoration Project Manufacturer: Yamaha Model: DT175E Year: 1978 Engine No: 2A7-010755 Frame No: 2A7-010755 Colour: Bilboa Blue Mileage: 4099 Capacity: 171cc Starting at: £999.99 Stock No: 88747 This well respected Tax & MOT exempt 1978 Yamaha DT175E Enduro has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the air is thin and the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours. This and the fact it's only showing 4099 miles and has been in dry storage for the last umpteen years have helped maintain its boyish good looks. We have been unable to confirm this mileage reading. Please disregard it. The single most important purchase for a classic restoration project is the bike to restore, whether it's going to be a commercial venture or just a hobby interest it all starts here!. PLEASE CHECKOUT THE PICTURES........As you can see this bike has a few parts missing – Ignition key, indicators, mirrors, airbox, battery, l/h side panel, battery, twist grip & ball end off the front brake lever being the most obvious. Sadly the headlight bowl is broken, speedometer case has a hairline crack in it & seat is just sitting on the frame rails. BUT NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS.........The wheels are straight with nice clean chrome rims, good hubs & brake plates. Forks & yokes look straight & clean. Mudguards are both solid. Tail light assy is good. Instruments & switches look great. Carburettor is free sliding off the twist grip. Paintwork is solid, fuel tank is useably clean inside and has just minor marks & scratches in the original paint. Exhaust is original & solid. Shock absorber is damping fine. The engine is cosmetically very clean, it turns over nicely off the kick starter – sounds/feels great & has compression but the absence of the CDI unit means it isn’t sparking so we haven't had it running. We HAVE NOT got the Certificate of Title but we will provide proof that VAT & Duty is paid on the NOVA system.(This can take upto 4 weeks) Registration. You need to get the bike MOTed. (Vehicles over 40 years old are MOT exempt) You need proof of year of manufacture in writing. Phone Yamaha UK customer services on 01932 358000 with the Model, frame & engine Numbers for a small fee they will send you a letter confirming the age. You need to have valid insurance on the bike. You can insure it on the chassis number. Send all this paper work to the DVLA, who will charge you £55 for the 1st registration plus the current amount for the road tax. The DVLA will send you your age related registration number. Spares you may need Our used spares dept may carry items you need for this project, give them a call on 01782 862200, if parts are available they will be happy to list them on EBay so you can purchase.
