1978 Yamaha DT250E Unregistered US Import Barn Find Classic Restoration Project Manufacturer: Yamaha Model: DT250E Year: 1978 Engine No: 1M1-101649 Frame No: 1M1-103238 Colour: Silver Mileage: 5023 Capacity: 246cc Starting at: £1499.99 Stock No: 90914 This very much sought after Tax & MOT exempt 1978 Yamaha DT250E Enduro has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the air is thin and the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours. We have been unable to confirm this mileage reading. Please disregard it. The single most important purchase for a classic restoration project is the bike to restore, whether it's going to be a commercial venture or just a hobby interest it all starts here!. PLEASE CHECKOUT THE PICTURES........The main pictures have a watermark to prevent our adverts/listings being copied. As you can see this bike has a few parts missing – Ignition key, mirrors, rear indicators, tail light, battery, l/h side panel & rear foot pegs being the most obvious. It has stood a while so the paintwork is faded, tyres are perished. BUT NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS.........The wheels are straight with alloy rims, good hubs & brake plates. Forks & yokes look straight. Mudguards are both solid. Instruments & switches look ok. Carburettor is free sliding off the twist grip. Paintwork is faded but solid, fuel tank is useably clean inside but heavily dented. Exhaust is original & solid. Seat base is in good condition. Front Indicators are tidy. Shock absorber is damping fine. The engine turns over nicely off the kick starter – sounds/feels great & has compression BUT BEST OF ALL when we hooked it up to a good battery & gave it a few prods it fires, starts, runs & revs. This is only a very brief description….If you are placing a bid reliant on parts that can’t be seen in the pictures being there and/or in serviceable condition or require any further information or more pictures please give us a call or message us. The registration process is reasonably uncomplicated. We HAVE NOT got the Certificate of Title but we will provide proof that VAT & Duty is paid on the NOVA system.(This can take upto 4 weeks) Registration. You need to get the bike MOTed. (Vehicles over 40 years old are MOT exempt) You need proof of year of manufacture in writing. Phone Yamaha UK customer services on 01932 358000 with the Model, frame & engine Numbers for a small fee they will send you a letter confirming the age. You need to have valid insurance on the bike. You can insure it on the chassis number. Send all this paper work to the DVLA, who will charge you £55 for the 1st registration plus the current amount for the road tax. The DVLA will send you your age related registration number. Spares you may need Our used spares dept may carry items you need for this project. Any parts available will be offered for sale on eBay.
