Description

1960 Matchless G3CS rep. competition scrambler with V5C doc Here is a fabulous 350cc all-rounder. Built as a 1960 Matchless G3CS this wonderful easy to handle, sporty 350cc combines classic competition lines with good all round practical classic usability, easy starting and easy handling. The bike is easy to kick-start. (Lucas Competition magneto) It likes a closed throttle and a couple of kicks and it’s away. Sounds fabulous, both on the exhaust note and mechanically. There’s no smoke, no knocks or rattles and the engine is lively for a 350. It is the all alloy 350cc short-stroke engine. The frame would appear to be a genuine scrambles or possibly CSR type duplex frame, which are beautiful handling frames. Rides really well, Balanced and smooth with good gears, clutch and good brakes. (There is a bit of fluctuation on the rear brake pedal so the bolt – on drum may require a quick skim). (This was not enough to stop it passing its last two MOT’s). Repro Smiths speedometer is working well. 12volt alternator charging system is working properly with excellent lights. This is an eye-catching and handsome machine but also quite a practical and versatile one. Capable of cruising along comfortably on the A & B roads whilst also being well cut-out for a bit of back lane / green lane work in the rough where necessary. The bike comes with a V5C. Date of registration is 6th February 1960. Registration number is YSJ 455 (cannot be transferred to another vehicle) Frame number is 33977 (matches V5C but does not in my opinion look like an original AMC stamping. Engine number is 60/G3CS 45560 this stamping also matches the V5C but is also probably not from the factory! The bike is registered as an Historic Vehicle, therefore road tax is free and it is MOT exempt. Cosmetically the bike is pretty good all round. The stove enamel on the frame is very good quality & condition. The tank and side panels have excellent paintwork, high quality. Tank is a genuine AJS / Matchless late 60’s competition steel tank, the eyebrow badge type. The tank has good pin-striping and has not been internally linered, it is good and clean inside. Wheels have very nice flangeless alloys with good clean plated type spokes. Front tyre is a 19” Cheng Shin trail type, hardly used, rear is 4.00 x 18 Pirelli trail type about 50% used. There is no fin damage on the head and barrel and they’re oil tight. Mudguards are alloys in good condition. Seat is a very slim sports type in very good condition. Exhaust is all good. Both side & centre stands are fitted and both are good. All in all this is an excellent classic competition Matchless, probably best described as a “rep” but actually fairly close to stock for a circa 1960 G3CS. It’s a great little bike to ride and enjoy, ideal for most classic motorcycling purposes. Don’t miss this attractive and lively 350cc Matchless.
