I bought this for the engine last December but found it was so clean I couldn’t bear to break it. Instead I made a bit of a winter project of it and stripped and serviced it within an inch of its life. It’s got 20K dry state USA miles on it and is in really nice condition for the age/model, it really does count as a rare classic now. The speedo shows 5K miles as I had to replace it due to a fault that kept flattening the battery, it is a US spec speedo though so is still accurate. It’s on US gearing which gives it better acceleration but it still cruises really happily at 80. The S3 was the sports touring model and this one has the pannier frames but no panniers included. The seat has had a gel insert and re-cover and is really comfortable compared with stock. The tank is good and I’ve never put ethanol fuel in it, they are so often in poor condition. EFI not carb. The rear seat unit has the usual cracks for this model and have been repaired for strength rather than looks, doesn’t detract from overall condition though. It runs and rides really well as you’d expect after it’s re-furb, I would keep it if I had the space.I will lose money on it, got a bit carried away, question is how much?It's the best colours, volcano grey and orange. Hyper pro progressive springs fitted. Head bearings: stripped cleaned and re-greased. Front brake: new pads, all 6 pistons checked and cleaned, new fluid.New front wheel bearings.New rear wheel bearings.Engine: oil and filter, Motul 7100, new iridium plugs, transmission oil new, primary chain adjusted, clutch cable oiled, exhaust headers acid dipped.A standard Helmholz air box was acquired, restored and fitted as the original would have been. These are excellent for performance and in my opinion suit the bike visually. New K&N filter fitted. Breathers routed to a catch tank on the left of the bike.Seat: sent to Germany, re-covered with orange piping and a gel insert, top quality work, very comfortable.Rear shock: stripped, cleaned, Hyperpro progressive spring fitted, re-gassed with Nitrogen.Rear brake: cleaned, pistons checked, new fluid.Drive belt: checked and adjusted.Indicators: new flexi stalk units fitted.Battery: new Motobatt gelTyres: Continental Road Attack 2, new front and rear, excellent for the bike.
