1977 Yamaha DT400D Unregistered US Import Barn Find Classic Restoration Project Manufacturer: Yamaha Model: DT400D Year: 1977 Engine No: 1M2-001975 Frame No: 1M2-001975 Colour: Red Mileage: 4087 Capacity: 397cc Starting at: £1199.99 Stock No: 88822 This much sought after Tax & MOT exempt 1977 Yamaha DT400D Enduro has recently been imported from North America where it has spent all its life – the air is thin and the climate is far kinder to motorcycles than ours. We have been unable to confirm this mileage reading. Please disregard it. The single most important purchase for a classic restoration project is the bike to restore, whether it's going to be a commercial venture or just a hobby interest it all starts here!. PLEASE CHECKOUT THE PICTURES........As you can see this bike has got a few bits missing, a few bits damaged/broken, a few bits rusty/corroded, a few bits non-standard & a few bits are very nice indeed. The wheels are straight with reasonable alloy rims, good hubs & brake plates. Forks & yokes look straight with good chrome. Tail light assy is good as are the headlight & hangers. Instruments & switches look ok. Carburettor is free sliding off the twist grip. Fuel tank looks solid but is filthy/rusty inside. Exhaust is original & solid. Seat base is in good condition throughout. Shock absorber is damping fine. The engine turns over off the kick starter – sounds/feels ok & has compression - We have had it firing/running on easystart spray but the mains feel rough......don't fret we didn't run it long. The bike is currently unregistered. The registration process is reasonably uncomplicated. We HAVE NOT got the Certificate of Title but we will provide proof that VAT & Duty is paid on the NOVA system.(This can take upto 4 weeks) Registration. You need to get the bike MOTed. (Vehicles over 40 years old are MOT exempt) You need proof of year of manufacture in writing. Phone Yamaha UK customer services on 01932 358000 with the Model, frame & engine Numbers for a small fee they will send you a letter confirming the age. You need to have valid insurance on the bike. You can insure it on the chassis number. Send all this paper work to the DVLA, who will charge you £55 for the 1st registration plus the current amount for the road tax. The DVLA will send you your age related registration number. Spares you may need Our used spares dept may carry items you need for this project, give them a call on 01782 862200, if parts are available they will be happy to list them on EBay so you can purchase.
