Description

Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE For sale is my lovely Royal Enfield Turbo Twin ‘Sports’. The bike is original in that it retains the engine, frame and registration number that it left the factory with in 1965. The bike was despatched to Millers of Wigan in May 1965 and subsequently sold new in August 1965. The original registration number was found in the Lancashire County Council, Wigan archives and reunited with the bike. I have the documentation to support this. This lovely bike was restored by a man who lives close to me and I have always admired it at local shows. When it came up for sale earlier this year I found it irresistible due to its likeness to the Crusader Sports I had as my first bike on the road. After riding the bike around for a while I have come to realise that it is too light for me or, to be fair, I am too heavy for it! It is nearly 50 years since I owned my Crusader Sports and I am at least 5 stone heavier! I remember with affection, a good friend who had a Turbo Twin back in the early 1970’s so I thought that by buying this Turbo Twin I could relive the dream.... and I have, but to be practical and realistic this is not the bike for me, and it’s not the bike’s fault! Mechanically, I cannot fault the bike. Everything works as it should. The bike starts really easily, usually second kick, the gears work faultlessly, there are no unusual noises and the bike pulls well with no misfires or hesitation. I own other old bikes so I do understand them and I can honestly say that there is nothing mechanical on this bike that needs attention. The brakes are good and operate evenly. The suspension feels fine but it is not quite adequate for my weight (16 ½ stone I confess!). The lights work and the charging system works. Cosmetically the bike is very close to ‘mint’. There are a couple of tiny paint chips on the tank, about the size of lentils, which could easily be touched up and do not detract from the bike’s overall impression of beauty (see photo L.H.S. above and to left of badge). These are tiny chips, not dents! I’m just trying to be 100% honest. There is a tiny dent on the front mudguard, about 1” long, which I have eased out from the underside (see photo but can't get dent to show up so it can't be that bad!). The bike has been a concourse show winner very recently and it wouldn’t take much to get it back to that condition again. The wheels are rebuilt with stainless rims and spokes. The documentation is extensive. The V5C is in my name and correct in every respect. I do not have the old log book. I have a mountain of paperwork provided to me by the restorer including paperwork from the Royal Enfield Owners’ Club and British Two Stroke Club, proving the provenance of the bike, and various technical documents which the restorer obtained to bring the bike back to its genuine original specifications. Under no circumstances will I allow test rides but I am happy to ride the bike up and down the road outside our house or if you want to follow me for a few miles I’m happy to do that also. Having been the victim of Ebay timewasters in the past I would respectfully ask potential bidders to observe the following:- This is an auction so if you bid and win it is your bike unless you can convince me that I have been dishonest in the description. Ask any questions before bidding! Come and have a look at the bike. I require a non refundable £100 deposit into my bank or Paypal account as a ‘commitment to buy’ within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The balance must be paid in cash or in cleared funds within 7 days or I will offer the bike to the second bidder. I have set a very modest reserve, much less than the bike is worth, so there would be no point in ending the auction early. Please don't ask for a 'Buy it Now' price, if you're interested just bid! UK bidders only. If you want to view the bike you will be most welcome but ‘social distancing’ must be observed. I can deliver the bike or meet you half way or at the Welsh or Scottish border for a reasonable fee, just ask for a delivery quote to a location of your choice before bidding.... but I would really prefer you to collect it. If you bid and win I am happy to keep the bike, for a maximum of eight weeks, or until restrictions are lifted, whichever is the sooner, providing payment is made in full within 7 days of the end of the auction. Thanks for looking and good luck. This is a rare and lovely bike that anybody would be proud to own.Andrew On 09-Jun-20 at 23:12:39 BST, seller added the following information: Just noticed a tiny mark in the chrome area of the tank on the left hand side. It was pointed out to me by a prospective buyer who was not concerned but suggested I mention it. It is fairly insignificant. I'll try to take a pic but I doubt it will show up. On 10-Jun-20 at 21:24:27 BST, seller added the following information: I've done my best to show the mark in the final photo but it doesn't show. If you look at the photo the mark is near where there is a reflection of my camera strap. I would describe the mark as a tiny, shallow, indentation, about the size of a piece of long grain rice, which makes it sound worse than it actually is! Just trying to be 100% honest. If it doesn't show in the photo it can't be that bad! On 10-Jun-20 at 21:27:16 BST, seller added the following information: In response to a bidder's question. The engine is a Villiers 4T and was rebuilt by the Villiers company (still in existence in the midlands) for the man who restored the bike. On 11-Jun-20 at 21:30:51 BST, seller added the following information: Bidders with a feedback score below 10 should contact me before bidding or bids will be removed.
